Wing Chun Chuan
& Chi Kung

"all journeys begin with the first step..."

Outline/Ethos of Courses
The object of these courses is to introduce the student to the history and principles of Wing Chun Chuan, and to teach the movements of the first 'form' Sil Lum Tao, which translates as 'Little Idea Form'.
Though the courses are structured for beginners in Wing Chun Chuan and Chi Kung, individuals with previous experience are likely to find something of interest and benefit.
Courses are limited to eight participants to ensure individual tuition.
Each day will include a minimum of four hours training, although there will be a degree of flexibility depending on the students' training needs.
The emphasis in Wing Chun Chuan training is to learn to relax, and to lose mental and physical tension. Consequenrly, some of the training methods require a stillness that younger children (>12 years of age) may find difficult. Otherwise, there are no age restrictions and mature students (50+) are particularly encouraged.

The Objects of Wing Chun Chuan 3 & 5 day Courses
It is envisaged that students will have learned the movements of the first form by the end of the third day, and that this will encourage them to continue to develop their skills, perhaps by becoming a member of a Club in their own locality. Mr. Kemp can advise on accredited local clubs and classes. Supplementary courses given by Wyndham Kemp at the centre in France can also be arranged.

Course Content The emphasis on our three and five day courses is that participants enjoy themselves. Wing Chun Chuan and Chi Kung are traditional Chinese systems of breathing, movement, visualisation and self-defence. The excercises to an extent resemble T'ai Chi and are performed slowly. Course members will also learn effective 'warm up' techniques, including special stretching excercises and movements that have particular health benrfits. Wing Chun Chuan is practised in a relaxed way, without force, by means of simple one and two person excercises.

The 3 day course
teaches the first form - Sil Lum Tao. It also includes Chi Kung excercises, Chi Sau ('sticking hands') and one/two person drills. The emphasis is on Gong Lik (Still in Form) and Fa Jing (sudden/concentrated release of energy.)

The 5 day course
will progress to learning the footwork and kicking techniques of the second form (Chum Kui) Each course is limited to a maximum of eight students to ensure individual attention. Similarly, each course will develop uniquely. to allow for individual training needs and interests.

Each day
will consist of a minimum of four hours training and include lunch. Daily plenary sessions will ensure that students have the opportunity to review the day's learning, and ask questions, so they feel confident in what they have learned.
There will also be the opportunity to participate in a daily walk (1 - 3 hours) to places of interest in the spectacular countryside. On the final night of each course students are invited to have dinner in a local restaurant at no extra charge
